Sports, Drama and Music are all integral parts of the ISLQ curriculum. In P.E. the children will be encouraged to work in small-sided teams and individual games. We will also offer gymnastics, floor and apparatus work, as well as athletics, all of which improve their co-ordination, ball handling, spatial awareness, physical and mental growth and development. We are in the process of designing and building a new swimming pool which should open later in the year. In swimming, initial work will be focused on confidence building and teaching of the main basic strokes.
The school will also participate in competitions with other schools in the region.
Drama at ISLQ will be important and is always very popular with students. The main productions in the school year will include the school play and an ‘International Evening', a show in which we will share theatrical performances from around the world revolving on one central theme.
Music will be offered across the school by specialist teachers. In the Primary school, students will learn to appreciate music, compose and sing. They also take part in a choir and have the opportunity to join the popular Music Club. In the Secondary school, the students work towards an understanding and appreciation of the subject. In addition they have the chance to perform in musical events throughout the year and to participate in running the school sound system for major productions.
To complement formal lessons, ISLQ students will be involved in a broad range of extra – curricular activities across all age ranges. These will take place after school. Primary activities may include ballet, football, street dance, choir, art and craft, drama and gymnastics. Secondary activities may include volleyball, football, squash, photography, table tennis and dance. Extra lessons in piano, drums, violin, guitar and saxophone will be offered by highly qualified instrumental teachers.
