Mother Tongue languages at ISLQ are an integral part of the curriculum. We will offer many different languages (in London we offer about 20) to all students from Early Childhood to Year 9 (later to Year 11). Our teachers are all native speakers with special skills appropriate for the age level. The aims of the Mother Tongue programme are:
To enable the students to write their native language with accuracy according to their age and ability.
To enable the students to enrich their vocabulary.
To give the students the opportunity to know some of the important literary works typical of their culture and literature.
To develop the students' ability to express themselves orally and in writing in a clear and structured way.
To develop the students' taste for studying their native language, literature and culture.
To prepare students for the future and give them the opportunity to carry on studying their language and literature at a native speaker's level.
The ultimate aim of the above programme is to enable students to keep in close touch with, and improve as much as possible, their native language and literature while learning English and living in an English speaking country. It also enables semi-native students to maintain a very high level of a second 'native' language.
